“La Terra e il Fuoco” (the Earth and the Fire) is a Cultural Association which purpose is the research of the Spiritual Art practiced by the ancient civilizations of America, Europe, Africa, Asia ( Maya, Incas, Aztecs, Egyptians, Greeks, Romans, Celts, Vikings, Chinese, Japanese, American Natives, Indù and Yorubà). Art arises essentially as a magic gesture, an attempt to transfer the experience of the supernatural to an attainable everyday level. The primitive hunters painted victorious hunting or war scenes just to dispel their scare of hunger and death, to exorcise the dread of the unknown and to gain confidence to a successful enterprise. Idols, whatever religion they might belong to, make touchable and visible every divinity, not only as a worshipping object, but also as a representative creed, a symbolic key to enter into a metaphisical dimension. Among all great human cultures, the minister’s role was to be able to get the nature of time and give significative information both about the present and the future of his people. It was precise to know whether, that year the harvest would be abundant or not; to know if there would be wars or epidemies, and finally if they could hope everything would all be for the best. Astrologs, Fortune tellers, Haruspexs and Sybils, were holy persons who, often, were theyselves priests, appointed to read the god’s will, observing the position of the planets, the viscera of the animals, the flight of the birds, or the dice throw. Even today, many cultures or religions apply to this pristly subjects who, under the trance effect condition, are able to establish a contact with gods and to speak in their place. Astrologs and Oracles in the Buddhist monasteries, the “Babalorishà” in the afro-brasilian “Candomblè” are current, recognized and practiced examples of this and they are followed by dozen of millions of people all over the world. The project rises from the meeting between the study of the ancient people’ s culture and the desire to express, in an artistic way, the symbols that men have used during the centuries in order to represent, life, heaven, earth, work, prayer and God. The association organizes basic and advanced laboratories with the purpose of allowing every member to express their own individuality through art and knowledge of symbols and archetypes. During the workshops of spiritual art, we would discover the secrets of clay, one of the oldest and fascinating materials in men’s history. Or one could simply concieve, create and wear a Celtic Cross, a Runic Ring, or bracelet in silver with engraved symbols which could be nearest to a state of mind, or help to transform an awkward situation.
